One way to reduce trauma deaths is to train people how to stop the bleeding. When someone is injured, controlling blood loss as quickly as possible is critical. Hemorrhage (rapid blood loss) accounts for 25% of all trauma deaths worldwide. We are committed to identifying patients at risk for acute stress disorder and providing appropriate resources for support. Acute Stress Disorder ScreeningsĪmong the trauma patients we encounter daily, 40 - 80% experience problems related to drug abuse, psychological disorders, acute stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and/or depression. The team also connects the family to outside resources, including the nationally-recognized fall prevention course Matter of Balance. When a patient is at high risk for falls or has already fallen, our fall prevention team provides education for both patient and family. They can lead to injury and long-term challenges. Fall Preventionįalls account for 30% of our trauma patient volume. Sutter’s trauma centers in Roseville, Modesto and Castro Valley are designated Level II sites, providing care considerably above and beyond the ability of typical emergency departments. We aim to identify risk factors for violence and support change. Trauma centers are categorized into different levels based on their specific capabilities, equipment and community programs. To address violence in our community, our trauma team also practices hospital-based violence intervention. To address this, we provide intervention therapy to patients admitted to the hospital for alcohol-related accidents or injuries.
